Day 5

Guptkashi – Joshimath - Badrinath (190kms/7hr)
After breakfast, leave for Badrinath via Joshimath. After driving through the scenic Ghat roads, you will arrive at Badrinath. Upon arrival, check into the hotel. After some rest and refreshments, you will be ready to visit the Badrinath Temple for darshan in the evening. But first, head to Tapt Kund (Hot Spring) for a bath before proceeding to the temple. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the Shri Badrinath Ji temple is 15 meters in height, built in the form of a cone, with a small gilt bull and spire on top. After darshan, return to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay. Badrinath: Cradled in the twin mountain ranges of Nar and Narayan, Badrinath is one of the holiest of the four main shrines, located along the left bank of the Alaknanda River, with the towering Neelkanth Peak providing a splendid backdrop. This spot was once carpeted with "Badri" (wild berries), which is why it was called Badrivan. According to legend, when the Ganga was requested to descend to Earth to help suffering humanity, the Earth was unable to withstand the force of its descent. Therefore, the mighty Ganga was split into 12 holy channels, with Alaknanda being one of them. Alaknanda later became the abode of Lord Vishnu, or Badrinath Ji. Badrinath, one of the 'Four Dhams,' is one of the most celebrated pilgrimage spots in the country and is situated at an elevation of 3,133 meters. This revered spot was once carpeted with wild berries, hence the name "Badri Van," meaning "forest of berries." Tapt Kund: Natural thermal springs located on the bank of the Alaknanda River, where it is customary to bathe before entering the Badrinath temple. Narad Kund: A recess in the river near Tapt Kund, forming a pool from which the Badrinath idol was recovered. Brahma Kapal: A flat platform on the bank of the Alaknanda River where Hindus perform rites to propitiate their deceased ancestors. Sheshnetra: 1.5 km away, there is a boulder with an impression of the legendary serpent, also known as Sheshnag's eye. Charanpaduka: 3 km away is a beautiful meadow where the footprint of Lord Vishnu is seen on a boulder. Mata Murty Temple: Dedicated to the mother of Shri Badrinath Ji. Other important temples include Sesh Netra Temple, Urvashi Temple, and Charanpaduka. Mana Village: Inhabited by an Indo-Mongolian tribe, this is the last Indian village before Tibet. Vasundhara: As the name suggests, Vasundhara is a magnificent waterfall located 5 km from Badrinath, with the first 2 km being motorable up to Mana. Bhim Pul: On the other side of Mana Village, there is a massive rock forming a natural bridge over the roaring Saraswati River. It presents a spectacular view of the water thundering down through the narrow passage under the rock and is believed to have been placed there by Bhim, the second eldest of the five Pandava brothers. Vyas Gufa (Cave): Near Mana Village, this is a rock cave where Ved Vyas is believed to have composed the Mahabharata and the Puranic commentaries.

Day 6

Badrinath – Joshimath - Pipalkoti - Rudraperyag (180kms/6-7hr)
Early Morning: Pilgrims, after bathing in the Tapt Kund, have the darshan of Badrivishal. Brahma Kapal is significant for Pinddan Shraddh (rituals for deceased ancestors). Other interesting sightseeing spots within three kilometers of Badrinath Ji include Mana, Vyas Gufa, Mata Murti, Charanpaduka, Bhimkund, and the "Mukh" (mouth) of the Saraswati River. Afternoon: Drive back to Rudraprayag, en route visiting Karanprayag. Rudraprayag is a small pilgrimage town located at the confluence of the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers. Upon arrival, check in at the hotel. The rest of the day is free to explore Rudraprayag town. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel. Joshimath: Joshimath is situated on the slopes above the confluence of the Alaknanda and Dhauliganga rivers. Of the four 'Maths' established by Adi Shankaracharya, Joshimath is the one located en route to Badrinath. A temple is situated here for people to worship. There are many temples in the township, the most important being the temple of Narsingh, a manifestation of Lord Vishnu. According to popular belief, the left arm of the deity is gradually withering, and it is said that the day the arm completely withers, Badrinath Valley will cease to exist, and the Gods will transfer their residence to the neighboring Niti Valley at Bhavishya Badri. Joshimath is well connected by a regular bus service to Rishikesh, Haridwar, Badrinath, and many other centers in the region. Rudraprayag: Rudraprayag is the confluence of the Mandakini and Alaknanda rivers.

You may opt to enjoy adventure activities like river rafting, among others. Upon reaching Rishikesh, you will go for sightseeing, visiting Ram Jhula and Laxman Jhula. In the evening, drive to Haridwar. Upon arrival, check in at the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel. Rishikesh: Located 25 km upstream on the banks of the Ganga, where it meets the Chandrabhaga River, Rishikesh is a holy town. Literally meaning "Rishi's locks," this small town is the point where the holy Ganges crashes down onto huge boulders, creating long stretches of white sandy beaches. The banks are lined with ashrams, where saints and holy men rested before beginning their pilgrimage up into the snow-covered lands of the gods. Rishikesh is essentially a combination of five districts: Rishikesh (the commercial center), Muni-ki-reti (the quiet suburbs), Shivananda Nagar (to the north), Lakshman Jhula (with its holy shrines), and Swarg Ashram (where most of the ashrams are located). Swarg Ashram Swarg Ashram, with its numerous ashrams, food stalls, and shops, is a popular spot for those seeking religious insights. The newly constructed Ram Jhula crosses the Ganga at this point. Ferries also run during the day for river crossings. Important shrines and ashrams in Swarg Ashram include Kali Kumbliwale, founded by Swami Vishudhananda, Parmarth Niketan (which houses large statues of gods and goddesses), and Gita Bhavan (which has an Ayurvedic dispensary and a shop selling religious books and cotton Khadi). Lakshman Jhula: About 2 km upstream is the old footbridge, Lakshman Jhula, named after Lord Rama’s brother. Temples line both sides of the river at Lakshman Jhula. Muni-ki-reti: To the northeast lies the area of Muni-ki-reti, along the banks of the Chandrabhaga River. This area, with its secluded white sandy beaches, is ideal for swimming. Boat rides on the river near Swarg Ashram provide a pleasant diversion, and you can feed the fish that gather around the pilgrims who throw balls of wheat flour into the waters.
